Knights is a fast growing legal and professional services business with over 930 professionals delivering high-quality services to over 18,000 clients from 13 offices across the UK—in cities like Birmingham, Leeds, Oxford, and York—and ranked within the top 100 law firms. Knights is one of the first legal businesses to adopt a corporate structure and the first to attract private equity investment.
In 2018, Knights was listed on the AIM market and continues to scale profitably and rapidly through both acquisition and organic growth. Since February 2020, Knights was added to the FTSE AIM 50 Index.
Knights engaged with Freeman Clarke after reading a paper published by Freeman Clarke on how IT could be used effectively to overcome some of the challenges facing legal firms. In May 2014, Andrew Hart, the Freeman Clarke West Midlands Director, started working with Knights, initially to assess the current IT capability in the context of an ambitious, growing legal services provider.
The objective was to help the Knights IT team to facilitate rapid scaling of the organisation, and to coach the team so that they were able to support the continually growing business.
In addition to mentoring and coaching the IT team, Freeman Clarke reviewed the core Practice Management processes and IT systems to identify and resolve areas that might be a bottleneck to scaling. Amongst other activities, they planned and supported IT upgrades to provide additional capacity and performance, also supported the integration of a number of acquisitions, carried out reviews of the legal processes with a view to enabling more effective IT support and helped to increase the IT risk management and cyber security capability.
‘Freeman Clarke has been our trusted IT advisor and has helped us develop the IT capability to support our profitable, growing legal services business.’
