Hawkins\Brown is an internationally renowned, award-winning architectural practice, creating places with personality and purpose that are well made and well used. They have offices in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Los Angeles.
In 1988, Roger Hawkins and Russell Brown set up Hawkins\Brown, envisioning an architectural practice with a committed social and cultural agenda — a vision that holds true today. Their first projects were a series of community buildings in the London borough of Newham. Now their projects span sectors such as education; workplace; residential; infrastructure, transport, and civic; and community and culture.
Technology has been an important enabler of architectural design for the past fifty years, but more recently it has taken centre stage. Every day, architects, surveyors, and designers now use the latest computer-aided design (CAD) and building information management (BIM) systems to assimilate and share data with partners. With virtual and augmented reality, they visualise their ideas and illustrate progress for their clients.
More recently the pandemic has driven the need for new ways of working, with technology providing fast, effective tools and systems to use in home offices, team sharing and remote collaboration with suppliers, partners, and clients.
Hawkins/Brown understood that they needed the right IT leader to seize the opportunities that technology provides.
Alastair Roberts, COO comments:
‘We realised we needed expert help to advise us about technology, take ownership on behalf of the Board, and help us with the selection of products, services, and suppliers. We needed a CTO, but we didn’t want to hire a full-time one as we already had a number of day-to-day operational resources that take care of maintenance and support. We wanted independent advice from someone we could trust, someone who is backed by a larger team of expert colleagues.’
Alastair continued, ‘Tony Tinnirello joined us from Freeman Clarke as our in house retained CTO. Immediately we felt a sense of relief as he set about prioritising and expediting our technology initiatives. Over the past two years Tony has become a vital and valuable advisor to the Board’.
Plain English board-level briefings focused on technology strategies to deliver competitive advantage and business success.
