“I currently have a service from Gartner or similar”
Our groups meet every month, sharing challenges and helping each other. You’re getting advice, opinions and viewpoints from your peers with real world experience and knowledge, from those who’ve been there and done it. So what you get from joining a mentor group is likely to be a very different (and complementary) benefit to the research and academic support you get from Gartner.
“I don’t have budget for this”
Can you afford not to do this? You work in an industry where experience goes out of date within months, would your CEO really mind you putting aside development budget so you can remain relevant, up to date and making good decisions for them?
“I am too busy”
It’s so important to make time for your own development, especially in the fast-moving technology space. The time commitment is one day per month for the group session, plus two hours for a one-to-one coaching session. Leadership is about effective delegation. Our initial advice is to work on moving things off your plate and into your team so you can find the time to continue your development.
“I already have a mentor”
That’s great, we hope that’s helping you, but what we offer is different. With our groups, your mentoring comes from your peer group; people who are still in the muck and bullets that you experience every day. Your coaching comes from the chair who’s always a qualified coach and will hold regular one-to-ones with you. If you still value your mentor, we’re not suggesting you give them up; what we do is different and complementary to your current mentoring.
