Founded in 1995, Sandberg Translation Partners (STP) is an international language service provider performing professional translation work between English and the Nordic languages. Based near Southhampton, the company employs 120 full-time staff supported by over 1,000 freelance translators and has an annual turnover of around £7.5m.
STP is wholly reliant on its proprietary translation management platform that facilitates the company’s project workflows and provides their managers with key financial information. This system was designed and developed in-house. It encompasses STP’s entire product/service lifecycle from client contacts, project data and supplier information to translation technology application, work assignment and client invoicing.
In April 2015, STP was several years into developing a new release of this translation management platform. However, the development of the new system had stalled and Jesper Sandberg, Executive Chairman, approached Freeman Clarke to get the project back on track.
Paul Larner, IT Director with Freeman Clarke, came on board to help STP assess and assign external software development resources to the project. Under Paul’s guidance, the work was structured and monitored in a way that enabled the new system to be fully implemented within eighteen months. Paul also contributed to the delivery of other technologies to enhance business operations, including the development of a new SharePoint intranet to improve content indexing and retrieval.
STP now has an IT Strategy for growth, including a software development roadmap, policies and procedures, cyber security and business continuity plans.
‘Paul joined us as our IT Director and helped us unblock the development of our core translation management platform. As a result, we are more efficient, and I feel I have an IT strategy in place to scale up my business.’
