Located near Oxford, Oxitec is a world-class pioneer in controlling insects that spread disease and damage crops.
Oxitec were acquired by Intrexon, a US-based biotech company working across a broad range of sectors and countries and are now scaling up on an international basis.
Oxitec needed an IT leader to take ownership for safe and secure management and storage of documents and data. Oxitec also needed new technology and new processes to operationalize their manufacturing, their supply chain, and to support their international growth.
Freeman Clarke provided an IT director, Joe Mernagh, who challenged their existing suppliers, selected new technologies, and took on the role of liaising with Intrexon to ensure that the subsequent integration was successful.
Joe has since devised an application strategy, including a new ERP system, to support operations locally in UK and overseas. As the breadth of the challenge grew, Freeman Clarke stepped up their involvement and provided a second IT director, David Stanton, to oversee international connectivity and delivery of Oxitec’s new IT infrastructure. Joe and David have implemented a number of significant changes extremely rapidly as the pace of Oxitec’s growth has demanded it.
Bill Fleming, Oxitec’s CFO said:
‘Our involvement with Freeman Clarke came at a crucial phase for us. We needed a serious IT director to review our IT and our IT suppliers, and to help us grow our production and distribution capabilities. When we needed further support, Freeman Clarke were able to introduce another outstanding individual. Both Joe and David have designed, shaped and delivered projects that would have been absolutely impossible without them. They are completely committed to our success and are dedicated members of our team.’
